In The Footsteps of Dorotheaisa biography of Dorothea Bate, the story of one young Edwardian woman’s unbelievable bravery, persistence and passion for chosen career of fossil-hunting. On the island of Majorca 100 years ago, she made and extraordinary discovery. In a remote, sea-lashed cave she found a number of perfect, fossilised limb bones and the well-preserved skull of a bizarre goat-like creature, unlike anything that had ever been seen before. She named this creature Myotragus – or mouse goat. In the afterglow of last year’s Darwin celebrations, it is a glorious example of evolution, adaptation, survival – and extinction. Karolyn’s talk and slide presentation will explore both Dorothea’s, and her own, adventures on Majorca. The talk is taking place in the Lecture Room and will cost £15 per person. It begins at 7pm and will be followed by Drinks in the Camden Room. To book, please send a cheque (made payable to ‘Westminster School’) to: Victoria Dearborn, 14 Wandle Road, London SW17 7DW. | |
