450th Anniversary Year - The Fund for Westminster 2010
We are enormously grateful for the money we received from the Annual Fund which has enabled us to purchase 12 high quality keyboards for our main classroom. Although the keyboards are used as stand-alone instruments in Fifth Form lessons, they can also be linked to computers in the room, enabling GCSE and A-level students to use them with our existing score writing and sequencing packages. The acquisition of the keyboards has revitalised the Fifth Form music curriculum, allowing for a far more composition-based approach to the subject. It has also facilitated the introduction of interesting new topics such as writing music for film. - Tim Johnson, Director of Music
Westminster School prides itself on maintaining an outstanding faculty and a diverse and eager student population, both embodying our mission of supporting excellence in teaching and scholarship. To ensure that we continue to provide the materials and opportunities necessary to facilitate learning at its highest level, we have created The Fund for Westminster. Through the Fund’s annual fundraising activities, our aim is to enhance the overall academic experience of our current pupils while at the same time continuing to widen access, helping to ensure that capable minds have access to the best possible education, regardless of financial obstacles.
Through their regular support of annual projects, we have also developed closer relationships with our alumni, parents and Friends, and with the amazing success of last year’s campaign, have succeeded in reinforcing our belief any gift, no matter the size, can make a genuine difference. Much like venture capital, this type of giving allows donors to make an investment in the futures of Westminster’s pupils and helps us to maintain an entrepreneurial culture in teaching and scholarship. In 2009, this included £77,000 raised for projects such as our Community Lecture Series and a computer controlled router for the Design and Technology Department, and over £293,000 in bursary funding.
