The highlight of last season was reaching the semi-finals of the D’Abernon Cup for the first time in my memory. We also played four friendlies, winning three, held our fifth Alec Melville Cup doubles tournament, and enjoyed a fantastic day at the Wimbledon Championships.
Marc Baghdadi and Chris Anguelov stormed through the D’Abernon Cup round robin in April winning all of their four matches. They beat Stowe 7-0, Bradfield 5-2, Harrow 6-1 and Oundle 7-0. The quarter final was against the Old Wykhamists. Marc and Chris were joined by James Amott and Tibo Rushbrooke and the Old Westminsters won 6-2 in sets. For the semi-final Marc, Chris, Aleks Mardinian and Tibo travelled to Derbyshire to play the Old Reptonians. Unfortunately they were outplayed but it was a tremendous effort and fantastic result to make the semi-final.
Our 4 friendly matches were against UCS, the Old Etonians, the Law Society and the School, winning all except the Law Society. Well played to all those who took part in the friendlies including Jimmy Notaras, Marc, Giles Atkinson, Christian Foss, Simon Clement-Davies and Oscar Podlewski.
This year’s Alec Melville Cup doubles tournament was another highlight as ever. I was delighted to win for the first time with my partner Caspar Melville, who was in the winning pair for the second year running, beating Giles Atkinson and Christopher Clement-Davies in a tight final. A huge thank you as ever to Matt Webb for again organising this excellent event.
On the social side, we enjoyed another very special day at the Wimbledon Championships thanks to our hosts Nick and Alex Perry. This is always a huge highlight of the season for which we’re extremely grateful.
As ever, Saturday morning sessions at Vincent Square run year round weather permitting and our Wednesday evening sessions run from April to August. Please come and join us or feel free to get in touch if you want more information. We hope to see you on court!
